Albóndiga

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for August 11, 2008

albóndiga - feminine noun (la) - meatball. Look up albóndiga in the dictionary

Me gusta un buen plato de albóndigas.
I like a good dish of meatballs.

Albóndiga comes from the Arabic word for hazelnut, búnduqa, according to Wiktionary.

I just thought it was funny, as I don't normally think of hazelnuts, when I eat meatballs, do you?

No, they must have been small meatballs. Thanks for making be aware of
Wiktionary. It seems pretty good. In the past I have struck with Tomísimo, the wonderful RAE, and Work Reference. Another good one is always welcome.

Wiktionary is indeed a great resource. It lacks certain words, but hopefully they will come as time goes on.
