Books

W.H. Auden once said (don't overestimate my knowledge, I just read it in a Waterstone's carrier bag):;)
"Some books are undeservedly forgotten, none are undeservedly remembered"
What do you think?

Supongo que hay una razón que algunos libros quedan en nuestras
memoria colectivas aunque el libro sea Valley of the Dolls.

Pero creo que existen libros olvidados que por algúna razón (por falta
de un mal gestor, por malas reseñas, razones políticas) merecen fama pero se perdieron.

Auden parece estóico.

Like movies, I remember bad books only because they were really bad.
Don't you remember "Da Vinci's Code"?? :D

I liked it...:o. But I enjoyed Angels and Demons a lot better.

I don't know much about Auden , but I like some of his poems. The one I sometimes use in my classes (because students already know it even if they are not aware of it and because I can show them the DVD) is the one read by John Hannah's character at his lover's funeral in Four Weddings and...
It is called funeral blues and I find it moving and easy to understand.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
