Battery

Battery

¿Me podéis corregir?

"We had to wait until the man came to start the car"

"It's posible that we left a door open over night and it made the battery die"
"Es possible que dejaramos una puerta abierta durante la noche y eso "made the battery die"?????

"The kids got in the car before me this morning so I didn't notice"

"We've got a flat battery"
"La batería se ha agotado"

Hi!

My version...........

;)

The idea of a "batería muerta" sounds very funny for a Mexican; I don't know if there's any other region where this image would be natural though.

We're much more likely to say:
- la batería se descargó
- una batería descargada

Edit: For a car we use "batería" in all cases, never "pila". :)

Instead of empezar el coche you may want to say prender el coche.

I have a question about the word pila and when it's used. I always thought bateria was an anglicism easily substituted for pila everywhere.

@Poli: You are right; we wouldn't say "empezar el choche".
Adding to your proposal, there is also "encender/arrancar/darle marcha al coche".

As for your question about "pila" and "batería", I think this other thread will be useful. :)

This also applies for phones, doesn't it? I seem to remember hearing it once or twice.

Yes, we tend to use it for most batteries that can be recharged.

Also:
- una batería baja [almost out of energy]

"I didn't get your message because my phone had died" (run out of battery)

Yes... "la batería del móvil". :)
