Verb tense: future or conditional?
Q: Mi ex-novia dijo que ___ el mes que viene.
A: 1) se casó 2) se casa 3) se casará 4) se casaría why 3 is not correct? it seems to me that the wedding is almost certain, so the future should be used instead of conditional. |
Although in colloquial speech, some people would say "se casará", or even "se casa" (using present tense with a notion of future), the only option that can be grammatically correct is 4, because of the necessary agreement with the
previous verb, "dijo", which is in the past, not with idea of the future given by the last bit of the sentence. :) |
