Venir a de pie

Venir a de pie
 

Creo que esta expresión quiere decir algo como "Came on foot". Leí esto: "La mujer venía a de pie." Pero no entiendo porque tiene a y de juntos así.

a pie = on foot
de pie = standing

venir a pie = come on foot
venir de pie = come standing (like standing on a bus for the entire trip)
venir a/de pie = come on foot/standing

de sentado a de pie = from sitting to standing
