Hueso

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for August 23, 2008

hueso - masculine noun (el) - bone. Look up hueso in the dictionary

Cuando comas pescado, ten cuidado de no comer los huesos.
When you eat fish, be careful not to eat the bones.

for fish bones, I use "espinas"
"Hueso" it's for animal's bones "hueso de cordero", "huesitos de rana", etc

I do not eat them, but it was common in my family. Same with snails.
Now is forbidden (frogs, not snails), due to animal protection.
greetings :D

Thanks Sosia, You're right. It's more common to say espinas or esqueleto, although I'm sure I've heard people say huesos in Mexico at least.

CrOtALiTo August 26, 2008 10:29 AM

Yeah, In Mexico is common to say bones to the fish bones, at least, such I meet that word used in my contry.

Sosia,
I have never tried the frog thingies, but I remember I used to love snails when I was little: both cooked and alive, in fact. I once had a pet snail for a day and felt devastated when it died at night:sad:... probably because I tenderly kept him in a closed matchbox ( a big one, though).:banghead:
I think I've 'outgrown' them now.:hmm:I find them kind of yukky.... probably because my kids hate them.

Elaina August 27, 2008 09:14 PM

UGH!!!

To frog thingies........and Snails "dead or alive"!

:D

What would you say to little fried birds, then?
When I was little they were served as tapas in bars ,but fortunately this practice was forbidden... I don't remember what kind of bird it was, but at that tender age I used to associate them in my mind to the little sparrows I saw around the neighbourhood. Thank God my parents never ate them...at least not in front of me.

Elaina August 28, 2008 01:50 PM

OMG!

Are you serious? Little birds? Fried? Oh, we can be such savages!

:sad::sad:

Totally serious. It's just a distant memory but it still gives me goosebumps. I'd rather not think about it.
Take care.:)
