I'm a very weak spanish speaker but I try my best. So for an assignment I am struggling with saying somethings. One in particular is this: He painted the same place more than once. Would it be Él Pintó el mismo lugar más que una vez? Please help me soon, thanks :)

The tense you used is a correct translation of what you said in English. The imperfect tense would change the meaning.

Yes. It would be OK. But it would depend on the context to use one or the other....just like in your first question in this thread.

The imperfect would talk about a habit or a repeated action in the past. The preterite talks about an action that happened only once.

I am still a bit confused. So saying My friend is Maria, would I use the imperfect because she is continuously my friend or the preterit? By the way my native language is English and I am sorry if I am bombarding you guys with stupid questions :worried:

If María is still your friend, you would use the imperfect to say she was your friend.
If that friendship had an end, you would convey that with the preterit.

What if Maria or the person who was friends with Maria were dead, but the friendship itself never came to an end in their life time?

Imperfect (not complete).

In Chile we say "There is no stupid question, just the one that wasn't made"
