Pienso que en esos días hay demasiado presión sobre niños para alcanzar ciertos objectos en vez de dejarlos ser niños y usar sus imaginacións y jugar."

First: The original English is lacking part of what Poli added as correction in Spanish! :) But, he misses some of the good stuff in the corrections. Remember that the same thing can be said in several ways, so: as I have always been a proponent, stick to the original native language, in this case English, as close as you can, that will reflect what's being said.

Childhood shouldn't be a race/contest....

So, how about if jellybabe rephrases her paragraph, and then Poli makes the necessary corrections if there is anything to be corrected?

Would that work?

No existe relación modal entre el verbo proncipal y ambos gerundios; de hecho, están en el mismo nivel sintáctico. Este uso se asemeja al de la conjución "y" y resulta bastante común en inglés. Si bien el abuso refleja una gramática poco cuidada (palabras traducidas a partir del texto de una lingüista neoyorquina).
