Verb use confusion?
Hi all, My name is Carl and I'm teaching myself Spanish as I love travelling in the Spanish speaking world and need a new learning challenge! I've been at it on a slow self help basis for a couple of years. I'm nowhere near any kind of fluency but making progress and enjoying it.
I'm new to forums of any type so be gentle with me! :) I have been using a book called 'Learn Spanish the Novel way' by Joe Schwartz. I like it but am confused by this sentence: Yo solo hacen los ladrillos In the context of the story, a young boy has forgotten to help his grandparents add a new room to their Mexico ranch; he says "(but) I only make the bricks" - that's my understanding? I'm confused by the use of 'hacen' in what appears to be the 'yo' form of the verb. I can't see how that is correct in any of the conjugations I have found online? Can anyone explain please? Thanks Carl |
Hola, Carl. ¡Bienvenido a Tomísimo! Ya verá cómo lo pasa en grande aquí.
Esa oración carece de sentido debido a eso mismo que comentaba: yo sólo hago los ladrillos / ellos sólo hacen los ladrillos. Quizás se trate de una errata. Y sólo hacen los ladrillos. Un saludo cordial. |
It's definitely an error. If the context is an excuse offered by the boy for not helping to build the new room the verb can only be "hago", not "hacen". :)
