Google Chrome

Google Chrome

I just downloaded Google Chrome and it looks pretty nice. After using it for about ten minutes, my first reactions are it's pretty fast and stable and I can use all the sites I normally use. Have any of you tried it yet?

By the way, Chrome is a new browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer. :) You can read some more about it here.

Thanks for the explanation, you saved me a Gemma question.:D
I use Firefox and in my current state of total exhaustion I don't feel up to new experiments. But I'll keep it in mind for future reference.
You are a :star:.

It seems good.

Tomisimo September 02, 2008 07:28 PM

I normally use Firefox too.

ElDanés September 02, 2008 10:45 PM

I'm using Firefox as well, but I will definitely give Chrome a chance - when it comes out for Linux. :(

It sounds good (I especially like the fact that they have splitted tabs up in separate processes, so that one tab can crash, but not the rest), but I doubt it will make it. They really have to come up with something extraordinary, so that it not just become yet another browser.

i'm with Firefox 3, but I willl try Chrome, because I know a certain page where Firefox always crash (sooner or later). I will see if Chrome's pass the test.
greetings :D

I installed it on my school laptop today to try it out. It does have some nice features, also non-technical ones, which users actually notice. I'm especially glad for the address-bar. As you type it comes up with suggestions to old websites you have visited, your bookmarks, and it also automatically suggest Google searches for you.

The biggest minus I noticed was its look. It's quite fancy with lots of graphics, like most users like nowadays, but I really wasn't my cup of tea.

For now I will stick to Firefox, and when a stable realease of Chrome comes out, I will give it another chance.

I'm interested in seeing how their v8 Javascript engine performs. From my tests, it's a *lot* faster than FX, IE and Opera. Test for yourself here: http://wd-testnet.world-direct.at/mo...jsTimeTest.htm

ElDanés September 03, 2008 09:11 AM

Haha, all the Danish tech-guys are so proud, because it was the Danish department of Google which developed the V8-engine. ;)

I'm not much into Javascript, so I can't say whether it actually is better or not. I would love to try the test you linked to, but unfortunately, I don't have access to my school laptop, and I only run Linux at home. :(

Here's my Javascript performance results on a laptop with a modest processor and 1 gig of memory.

Chrome, hands down!

ElDanés September 03, 2008 10:06 AM

That's indeed an improvement!

The one anomaly that piqued my interest was the array sort. 169ms in Chrome, 31ms in IE and 13ms in Firefox.

Rusty September 03, 2008 08:45 PM

Oops, I didn't see that. But, when all tests were run, Chrome did the best overall.

Tomisimo September 03, 2008 11:17 PM

You're right. I was just wondering with all their optimizations to speed things up, what have they done to make sorting an array slower?

Rusty September 03, 2008 11:22 PM

Yeah, it's kind of hard to figure that one out. Perhaps others are asking the same question on the blogs that be, or what have you.
