¿Cómo se dice..?

"Espero que no se supusiera que pagamos."
"I hope we weren't meant to pay."

"Was it supposed to do that?"
"Se suponía que hizo eso?"

These are tough questions for non-native speakers, but I will go out on a limb and we will see how it is confirmed by native speakers.
Suponer is a strange word for us because it isn't always used the same way that to suppose is used in today's English.

Ojalá que no esperara que pagáramos nosotros.

¿Está supuesto funcionar así?
