Your sentence is fine, but here's a little note on spelling: when the last syllable of a word starts with z, they combine z with vowels a and o, but their derivative words combine c with i and e:

empezar -> empecé, empiecen
cabeza -> cabecita, cabecear
trozo -> trocito
pedazo -> pedacito
