Pronounce alphabet

I am trying to pronounce the letters of the alphabet for peoples surnames. The problem is mine as it has an apostrophe

O'Toole

¿Puede usted ayudar?

In Spanish your name is pronounced Otúl or Otule

Gracias. But if I went on holiday to Spain and the hotel receptionist asked me to spell my name how do I get it correct. I can't give her the Spanish spelling can I

Yes, you can spell it out using Spanish letters. They would be sure to get your name right that way.

Mi nombre es "O'Toole" [say it as you pronounce it in English]. Se escribe: o, apóstrofe, te, doble o, ele, e. "Oto-ole" [pronounced in Spanish].

Thanks it was the apostrophe I was looking for also noticed that you can also have apóstrofo. Does this mean that surnames are feminine?

AngelicaDeAlquezar December 06, 2014 10:21 PM

No, it wouldn't mean that at all.
"Apóstrofe" and "apóstrofo" are two different words.
My teachers always said "apóstrofe", so I learnt this mistake. Sorry. The correct word for talking about the spelling symbol is "apóstrofo".
