Ése Vs Eso

Ése Vs Eso

‘La entrada era muy cara. Ése era el problema para mí.’

Am I correct in saying that we can’t use ‘ése’ or 'ese' here, that it should be ‘eso’ i.e. the neuter form of the demonstrative?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, "eso" is more appropriate than "ése/ese" in this context.

I will have to slightly disagree here, "ése" is referring directly to "el problema", so it's a valid construction.

- Eso es lo que me impidió ver el espectáculo.
- Eso es lo más triste.
- Eso es lo que no me gustó.
