thankyou AngelicaDeAlquezar!!!
hi, i have one more question, does the title of the episode 'un festival de ambiente' just refer to the 'festival del medioambiente' or does it have another meaning? how would you translate 'un festival de ambiente'? |
More context is needed. Ambiente usually means ambience, but I guess it can mean medioambiente or environment or ecology under certain circumstances. Keep in mind that if you use ambiente that way, you run a greater risk of being ambiguous.

Poli is right about the ambiguity of the word.
Certainly, the celebration they're organizing is about the environment in an ecological sense, but when "ambiente" refers to something like a party, it's like the good ambiance. "Festival de ambiente" would mean that everyone finds it agreeable and is having fun, but I can't find a translation for the play on words. |
I believe it can mean any festival that is held outdoors.
I see it translated as 'music festival', for instance. It could mean a party that you can hear all around you, kind of like being in a neighborhood party. We in the US cannot view the video, by the way. |
"De ambiente" by itself, doesn't mean much in Spanish. The expression is only complete when there is a description of what kind of ambiance the speaker refers to:
- Un restaurante de ambiente familiar. - Un jardín de ambiente urbano. - Una reunión de ambiente relajado. - Un barrio de ambiente alegre. However, when people say something like "fiesta de (mucho) ambiente", "baile de ambiente", they usually mean that it's enjoyable and fun. It can be a ball or a party indoors too. "Festival de ambiente" is certainly not a common wording, but here it's playing with the idea of an environment-related celebration and the joyful atmosphere it was supposed to have. Apart from the play on words, it's also an ironic title for the episode. For more context, this is the plot: The teacher assigns to children in his class the role of four gods of the elements --water, fire, wind and earth, to make a stage representation of them to celebrate the environment. Three scenographies are made for the festival: an ugly one made by the children, one made by the mother of one of the children (which gets broken), and one made in the school auditorium by one of the neighbors (who was commissioned to do it by the teacher). The representation is ruined in the end because the mother whose art was broken keeps intervening and because there are many accidents happening. If there's anyone interested in watching it, it seems to have been uploaded by different users on YT and they appear with the title "un festival de ambiente; maybe not all are blocked. :) |
