Programme

Here a programme is equal to everything that a student has to study to obtain the degree at uni. What are the verbs in collocation with programme?

-John got into the same programme as I. We are taking Distribution Analysis this term in the Statistics Department.

-John was admitted into the same programme as I.
-John went into the same programme as I.

What are the other verbs I can use?

But programme here does not mean some plans to do something, so he is not taking 'part' in something; is it less common than other expressions? To make myself clearer: to finish a programme is the same as obtaining a degree.

Anyone seeking a degree in some kind of program participates in the required classes. It can be also be said that a person takes part in the requirements.

I agree that 'is a part of' doesn't quite pair up with 'participates in' or 'takes part in', but it does describe the status of the student. 'Takes part in' could be used instead to focus on the action rather than the status.

I would say it's less common to hear that someone is a part of a program, taking part in a program or participating in a program to obtain a degree, but all may be used, nonetheless.

Ah, I almost forgot; do you think the red words in the first post are wrong?

Rusty April 14, 2015 03:36 PM

No, they're good. You asked what other verbs could be used. :)

Thank you.
