Can I use the verb open?

-What would a psychology lesson be at this university? Would the teacher just come in the classroom, open the powerpoint and read what is in the powerpoint and add so-called explanation?

We normally say 'open up' a PowerPoint presentation, but among tech-savvy folks you may just hear 'open the PowerPoint'.
