Hi my name is Stephen Montes but people call me Stefano. I am from the Philippines but I've been living here in Thailand for 15 years. I believe this is the bestplace for me to practice my Spanish and I hope there are people here who are interested to be friends and help me learn the language! :) I can also help anyone who wants to learn English or Tagalog and even Thai! Sa lahat ng mga taga-Pinas dito, nababasa nyo naman po siguro yung Ingles. Hehe! Sana magtulong-tulong po tayo matuto ng ibang lenguaje! Ingats! :) |

Thank you poli for correcting my Spanish---that's what I needed, after all! Yet I have a few questions about the usage of some words there:
Soy Filipino pero ahora llevo 15 años viviendo en Tailandia I believe "llevo" means carry/bear/take... so is it really necessary to use it in this sentence? Ojalá haya alguien aquí que le interesa ayudar me aprender I assumed that "hay" is a phrase that means "there is" so is "haya" the same thing then or I just really missed something here? About the "le", is it the linking verb "is" or something else? And how did it get there? Perdon por mi preguntas muchas! Solamente quiero a aprender más. Y gracias por tu ayuda, specialmente sobre el uso del acentos. :) |
If a verb follows ojalá, it must always be in the subjunctive tense and haya is subjunctive of haber.
Llevar is a verb commonly used to measure time spent. Another common one is hacer (hace cinco años que vivo en Nueva York.) I think you can also use pasar. It's spoken word and memory that I'm dealing with, but here's how I think you would say it: Soy Filipino pero he pasado años en Tailándia. Le is an indirect object pronoun. |
Welcome to the forums!
In addition to, or in corroboration with, the corrections given by poli, here are others. Quote:
