"He is putting people in danger"
 

How would you translate "he is putting people in danger" ? For example, through reckless behavior or something of that sort. I honestly have no clue how to translate this, other than trying to literally say "El esta poniendo otra gente en peligro" o "El hace peligro para otra gente."

"Hacer peligro" sounds awkward.
Your first proposal is fine.
If your listener already knows the situation, you can say "está poniendo a la gente en peligro".

Another way to say it may be "está exponiendo/arriesgando a otras/las personas"; where the danger is already implicit in the verb. :)
