What does on the sky mean? Um...what does the entire sentence mean? This post-modern novel has given me a big headache.

She understood how the tracks ran on into other tracks, as if maps of the railroad tracks had been flashed on the sky for her.

The author of the book you're reading is well-known for writing heavy and complex fictional works. I find his works hard to follow myself.
