Cajuela
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for October 15, 2008
cajuela - masculine noun (el) - trunk, boot. Look up cajuela in the dictionary Abre la cajuela para que saque las bolsas. Open the trunk so I can get the bags out. |
Rara palabra....
... nunca la he oído nombrar acá en Chile, aunque sí en las traducciones de películas :impatient:. El término usado es portamaleta.
|
Hola y buenos tardes de España
En Inglés la palabra 'trunk' es la nariz de la elefante. (In English the word 'trunk' is the nose of the elephant. Para le coche la palabra es 'boot'. Open the boot so I can get the bags out! Ruby |

Tal como trunk es la palabra inglesa que se usa en las Américas y boot es la que se usa en Inglaterra y Australia, la palabra que puso el robot DailyWord es la que se usa en México. En España, se dice maletero. En otros países hay otra palabras para la misma cosa.
Dices que la palabra que sabes es portamaleta. También encontré portamaletas, maletera, baúl y portaequipajes. :) ~~~ Just as trunk is the English word used in the Americas and boot is the one used in England and Australia, the word posted by the DailyWord Robot is the one used in Mexico. In Spain, they say maletero. In other countries there are other words for the same thing. You say you know the word portamaleta. I also found portamaletas, maletera, baúl and portaequipajes. :) |
I asked some of my friends who are native speakers and this is what they said!
cajuela = car trunk cajuelita = glove compartment I think it's cute! |
car trunk=baúl
glove compartment=guantera These are all very regional terms just as they are in English (like bonnet and hood). Today was the first day I ever saw the word cajuela, and obviously it's widely used. It's good to know alternate terms. |
To tell you the truth, I think of the word baúl as a plain old trunk not a car trunk.
