I need to translate "the third articles" into Spanish for an essay.

Is it "los terceras articulos" or "la tercera articulos"?

'Articles' is plural in English, so you've got the right number in Spanish, but you've misspelled the word (accent marks must be used to correctly spell Spanish words that have them).

'The third' suggests that there is a first and a second 'articles', although it sounds weird to my ears.

The numeral needs to agree with the noun it modifies, so it should be 'terceros'.

I'm still troubled by 'los terceros artículos'. Please explain why it can't be 'el tercer artículo', and can't have two subarticles.

I'm actually using "artículo" to mean "item" in this case.

The essay is a manuscript for a bargaining situation in a market stand. We must bargain for three different items, and ask three questions per item. The first item is a purple sombrero, the second is a woven basket, and the third item is a set of two golden dishes. Therefor, my article subtitle is "LOS TERCEROS ARTÍCULOS son dos platos oros."

Ah, in that case, all is good.

Note that I changed my last post - 'el segundo artículo' is correct.

Are the plates colored gold or made of gold?
Your wording may need to change. ;)

For the sake of Spanish students:

"El tercer artículo/ítem es un par the platos de oro."

I would be surprised "los terceros (artículos)" were used in an enumeration. It'd be disambiguated as "los artículos en tercer término" or something like that.

"Los terceros" is an extremely useful concept meaning "those who are not you and I", "outsiders". And it's intended as a noun:

In the phrase "los terceros acreedores/protegidos/poseedores/comprometidos/etc", terceros is the noun and acreedores/protegidos/poseedores/comprometidos/etc is the adjective.
