Sobre/tras

Sobre/tras

Is it common to use tras instead if sobre in the following case?

I've never seen it used like that.
"Tras" is for things that are after, behind or like being followed.

-> after the terrorist attacks
- El sabueso fue tras la pista. -> the hound followed the track
- Los concursantes esperan tras bambalinas. -> they're waiting backstage

"Es una historia tras el amor y el odio" doesn't make much sense to me, unless it is the story of what happens behind love and hate, not about love and hate themselves.

I haven't either, but in this sentence it seems perfectly natural. This is peninsular Spanish:

In English sometimes the story behind is used, but it's meaning is different from the story about. The story behind implies the untold story.

I wouldn't say this is "about"; I see here the idea of something that happened following an event. After the death of Barrio there were nasty comments on social networks, to which El Juli has had an angry reaction.

Thanks

I concur with Angelica.

The only possibility for "Una historia tras el amor y el odio" could be "the story after a situation of love and hatred", ie., Peter loves Mary... then something happens, they hate each other... and then the story starts here... after all these sentimental ups-and-downs...

The story after the Roller-Coaster... so to speak...

Thanks all. How would you say the story behind. Here's how I would say it in my awkward Spanish.

Your proposal is fine. I would only add some tiny corrections:
