I'm going to have a party for my brother
Is it proper to say voy a tener una fiesta para mi hermano? The spanish speaking software I use says voy a dar una fiesta para mi hermano, but they are saying I am going to give a party for my brother as if that is a normal thing to say. Which is correct?

"Tener una fiesta" doesn't mean that you're involved in the organization of the party.
"Dar una fiesta" means that you are responsible for throwing it. |
How could "voy a tener una fiesta" not imply that you are throwing the party when the sentence says that you are going to have a party?
|
If you say "tengo una fiesta", you can simply attend the party.
When you say "dar una fiesta", you are offering it, like a present. |
