Can you help me translate this please
"Ya exhausto, remontó un set que iba perdiendo 5-2 y se negó a caer hasta que los misiles de Nishikori no lo hundieran. "
(the context is the Nadal v Nishikori tennis match and i understand the start of the sentence and that 'los missiles' is a metaphor for shots/serves. I am having trouble with the last part 'no lo hundieran' and how that fits in) |
The metaphor you mentioned carries on to the end of the clause.
Missiles, when fired, can sink a ship. 'hasta que' triggers the use of the subjunctive mood (hundieran) when the outcome is anticipated. ... refused to fall, until even Nishikori's missiles didn't sink him. |
