Asking about camping

Asking about camping

Hi everyone!

As I'm currently cycling down Baja, I need to ask about options for camping. I had two questions about this.

First, what's the best way to say 'Is there a campsite around here?'?

I've been using ¿Hay el bano esta aqui? for the toilet, so would it be 'Hay el campamento esta aqui?' I want to ask if there is a campsite anywhere in the area, so maybe 'aqui' is not appropriate?

Second, someone posted on a cycle touring forum a long time ago saying that there was a much better/more appropriate/more polite way to ask someone if you can camp on their property than just '¿Puedo acampar aqui?' but I didn't write it down and now I can't find the thread. Any ideas on this?

Thanks!!

Here are some suggestions for improvement. If you need some more explanations, let me know. :)

¿Hay el baño está aquí? -> You're using two incompatible verbs in one sentence. You must use either one or the other.

'Hay el campamento esta aqui? -> With the right question for the toilet, you may ask the same one for the camping site.

If you want to give an idea of proximity in the surrounding area, try using "por aquí" instead of just "aquí". :)

'¿Puedo acampar aquí?' -> This is correct. You're asking "May I camp here?"

As a last note, please try writing Spanish characters, they don't only tell you how to pronounce the word, but they also can change the meaning. :)

Thanks Angelica! I can't seem to find the Spanish characters on my l phone. Holding down the key doesn't reveal them. I'll try to change the keyboard when I have a chance.

If you'll forgive my lack of appropriate characters for one more post...

¿Hay el campamento por aqui? Is this correct? 'por aqui' is definitely more appropriate for what I'm trying to say.

For the second one, it's that a polite way to ask that? I was thinking to add 'para una noche' to the end to make it clear that I'm not moving in. ¿Puedo acampar aqui para una noche?'

¿Hay campamento por aquí?
¿Puedo acampar (aquí) (por) una noche?

So I've just passed offer to Mazatlan from La Paz. As I'm now going to be cycling in rural Mexico, I figure there won't be many actual campsites around, and just asking straight up if I can camp in a certain spot might not always be appropriate, I was thinking about going with this:

Hay un lugar seguro para acampar por aquí?

That seems right to me. Any issue with that sentence?

The word 'offer' should probably be 'over'. ;)

Your sentence works, but I would reverse 'para acampar' and 'por aquí'.
You can also say 'donde acampar'.

"Is there a place to camp around here?"

Hay donde acampar por aqui?

I agree, with some corrections:

¿Hay dónde acampar por aquí? :)
