Volado
¿Como se dice "volado" en inglés? Does it have something do do with "flying"?

I'm not familiar with the expression ser un volado that PH posted, but note that it is an expression and the literal meaning 'flown' doesn't figure in the English translation of the expression. |
|
In the Caribbean volado (volao) also means rice that's cooked gringo style. This means undercooked by Latin standards with grains that don't stick together.

To blow y volar a veces coinciden, no es siempre to fly Una volea is a high kick ahead in soccer, also a tennis move (a lift, I think) |
Poli,
You mean puffed rice? No, you don't, I think.:footinmouth: The one you are talking about is marketed here as 'arroz entero' :erm::erm::whistling: |
No definitely not puffed rice. What Carribeans mean by arroz volado us
rice that clearly maintains is full grain. Rice that is not starchy or gooey. It's esthetically appealing, but it usually doesn't taste as good. Americans usually like rice prepared this way(including paella cooked this way:eek:). As far as I know cooks from other cultures prefer rice to be a bit more starchy. |
Arroz entero, definitely. Here it is used in salads and in paellas, too.
Rice for stews and for dessert (with milk and cinammon) would be starchy. |
In my neck of the woods..........
Volado = flirt |
Another meaning of volado is the toss of a coin (heads or tails).
