Hi Everyone,
I am aging myself, but I learned Spanish before the use of white boards was very popular in the classroom... are there any native speakers out there (or students of native speakers) that can tell me what to call this? I use "la pizarra", but I'm not sure if it's meaning carries over to the WHITE board.

I believe that white board meaning Pizarrón, or you tell me that you need to know, please if you could to be more explicit.

Our professor uses la pizarra interchangeably with whiteboard/chalkboard.

Use pizarrón for a chalkboard.
Use pizarrón blanco for a whiteboard.

If you're in Mexico, they apparently use pintarrón blanco.

It's also possible to substitute pizarra in all instances.

Yes, it here in Mexico is used, the great word of my school Pizarron Blanco.

If I recall correctly, pizarrón is the most common way of saying blackboard/chalkboard/whiteboard in Mexico. Pizarra is more common in other areas such as Spain.

Last year I was training for the teaching license test and we learned that the board was gonna be white instead of a chalkboard. There we were, 50 native speakers looking for a word.:banghead::banghead:

Pizarra de rotulador came out. The right phrase is still being settled by usage, only in the last few years whiteboards are showing up in public schools.

I've also heard pizarra blanca, o pizarra veleda (after a brand, such as 'frisbee')

Pizarrón over here sounds like a very very old one, the black ones (most often, modern chalkboards tend to be green). See also pizarrilla (hand chalkboard, coming from Rome when it was made of wax and you'd write on it with a stylus.

Pizarra is the mineral, we make roof tiles (slats) with it, the material is resistant to very extreme low temperatures.

Pizarrón is not in use, was usually a very rough "pizarra" or the biga ones who were in the university (with several panels)

La pizarra for me. I guess it can also mean chalkboard or blackboard

I've only heard it referred to as "pizarra", and that's how I've used it too. I see that both Oxford and Collins give the options "pizarra blanca" and "pizarra vileda" (not veleda:bad:). But whatever is used by the people you're talking with would be fine, I guess.
