Dar de alta

Does fue dada de alta del hospital mean was released from the hospital?

Yes, you've got it, and I've added it to the idiom dictionary. One thing to note, is that it's always alta regardless of the gender of the person:

Le dieron de alta a mi papá. - My mom was released.
Le dieron de alta a mi mamá. - My dad was released.

Yes, Poli, for example A mi amigo le dieron de alta en el hospital hoy, it would be translate My friend was released from the hospital today.

I never hope are in a hospital, I don't like the hospitals.
