Tomar vs Hacer

LearnWithOliver.com

Tomaron la decisión errónea.
They made the wrong decision.

Words of Today's Sentence:
tomar
1. to take 2. to drink 3. to make (decisions)
Here: to take, to drink

Busqué pero no pude encontrar "Tomar" usado así en el web.

Como siempre gracias.

tomar una decisión is correct, and it corresponds with to take a decision which is more commonly used in Britain

"Tomar" has all three meanings, but in different contexts: :)

- Nunca he tomado una buena decisión en la vida.
I've never made a good decision in life.
- No tomes la decisión ahora.
Don't make that decision now.
- ¿Ya tomaron la decisión?
Have they made the decision yet?

- Nos tomamos una cerveza en la playa.
We drank a beer on the beach.
- Tómate una copa conmigo.
Have a drink with me.
- Nadie se tomó el agua.
Nobody drank the water.

- Toma tu libro y vámonos.
Take your book and let's go.
- Los alumnos van a tomar notas.
The students will take some notes.
- Yo no tomé nada de tu bolsa.
I didn't take anything from your purse.

Bueno. Si "tomar una decisión" es correcto, ¿es tambien correcto a decir "hacer una decisión"?

They made the wrong decision.

Strictly speaking, it's wrong to say "hacer una decisión".
It's a collocation, so the verb "tomar" is the only one that in principle works there.
However, under the influence of English, more and more people say "hacer una decisión" and it's becoming more and more accepted. So, don't worry if you say it like that. You'll be understood. :)
