La Tarea

We started Capítulo 10 today in class.

pg. 151 #2

Example:

A --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
B --Necesito (Para/Tengo que) comprar lápices.

Check for any errors, please, in grammar and spelling. Thank you all. :pizza:
a. --¿Por qué vas al supermercado?
--Necesito comprar los comestibles.

b. --¿Por qué vas a la farmacia?
--Necesito comprar las pastillas.

c. --¿Por qué vas a la tienda de regalos?
--Tengo que comprar una regalo.

d. --¿Por qué vas al correo?
--Tengo que enviar una carta.

e. --¿Por qué vas a la biblioteca?
--Necesito devolver un libro.

 f. --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
--Tengo que comprar una tarjeta de cumpleaños.

Rusty December 15, 2008 02:40 PM

It looks like you're supposed to choose between necesito and tengo que. None of the answers are correct, not even the example.

Jessica December 15, 2008 02:45 PM

fixed it. check it now.... :P

Rusty December 15, 2008 02:50 PM

The example still doesn't make any sense.

Answer the following questions:
What does tengo que mean?
What does necesito mean?
What does para + infinitive mean?
Does it make sense to follow necesito with tengo que?
Does it make sense to follow necesito with para?

literacola December 15, 2008 03:22 PM

jchen, speaking from my history of doing the opposite, I would recommend writing your answers in complete sentences to start. By that I mean sentences that completely answer what is being asked.

Jessica December 15, 2008 03:29 PM

okay.... :P

1. Tengo que means I have to
2. Necesito means I need to
3. para + infinitive - to + infinitive?????????
4. it doesn't make sense to follow necesito with tengo que
5. it makes sense??

Jessica December 15, 2008 03:32 PM

This is what the example is...EXACTLY :P
A --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
B --Necesito (Para/Tengo que) comprar lápices.

literacola December 15, 2008 03:55 PM

It sounds like your teacher may want you to replace Necesito with one of the other options.

Voy a la librería para comprar lápices.

o

Voy a la librería porque tengo que comprar lápices.

Did she give you any other instructions?

Tomisimo December 15, 2008 04:09 PM

Concerning the example, if it were rewritten like this, it would work: (Where you choose one of "necesito", "para", or "tengo que").

¿Por qué vas a la librería?
(Necesito/Para/Tengo que) __________ comprar lápices.

Rusty December 15, 2008 04:18 PM

Yep, I wholeheartedly agree with David, and was thinking the same thing. The example is not correct. Use David's rewritten example and you'll find this exercise a lot easier.

tengo que + infinitive = I have to ...
necesito + infinitive = I need to ...
para + infinitive = in order to ...

Edit: I just noticed that you changed the original post once again. There's a mistake in c. Other than that mistake and the fact that you never used para, the answers you gave are good.

Jessica December 15, 2008 06:01 PM

what kind of mistake in c?

CrOtALiTo December 15, 2008 06:12 PM

I guess, you need help with your homework, but I don't know if you need write Necesito or Para, Tengo que, then I answered the questions of the best way possible and, if you need some explain about your homework, you can ask me if you want.

A --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
B --Necesito (Para/Tengo que) comprar lápices.

Check for any errors, please, in grammar and spelling. Thank you all.
a. --¿Por qué vas al supermercado?
--Tengo que comprar los comestibles.

b. --¿Por qué vas a la farmacia?
--Para comprar las pastillas.

c. --¿Por qué vas a la tienda de regalos?
--Para comprar un regalo.

d. --¿Por qué vas al correo?
--Para enviar una carta.

e. --¿Por qué vas a la biblioteca?
--Para devolver un libro.

f. --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
--Para comprar una tarjeta de cumpleaños.

You have answered your question bad, because you should use the word Para, because the sentences are questions, it are not comments, then you must use the word Para for answer the questions above, your homework.

Jessica December 15, 2008 06:14 PM

oh I see the mistake in c now.

c. --¿Por qué vas a la tienda de regalos?
--Tengo que comprar un regalo.

lee ying December 15, 2008 06:50 PM

yes it´s like the englsih, for eample if you ask, why are you donig that? you have to answer saying: because i need to do it . or i have to make it. something liuke that.

so, if you´re asking in spanish : all theses quetions

lee ying December 15, 2008 07:52 PM

A --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
B --Necesito (Para/Tengo que) comprar lápices.

I think the corrects answer are like that. because you have to answer saying the why (el por que) before you say anythingyou hasve to say bacause (por que or para only that and nothing more after that the why (el por que ),for exmaples:

Check for any errors, please, in grammar and spelling. Thank you all. :pizza:
a. --¿Por qué vas al supermercado?
--Necesito comprar los comestibles.
Porque necesito comprar los comestibles (Los alimentos) or

b. --¿Por qué vas a la farmacia?
--Necesito comprar las pastillas.
Porque tengo or necesito comprar las pastillas. whatever you want. if you use tengo you have to say tengo que: have to.

c. --¿Por qué vas a la tienda de regalos?
--Tengo que comprar una regalo.
porque tengo que comprar un regalo. that´s right

d. --¿Por qué vas al correo?
--Tengo que enviar una carta.
porque tengo que enviar ana carta.
porque necesito enviar una carta

e. --¿Por qué vas a la biblioteca?
--Necesito devolver un libro.
por que necesito devolver un libro.
para devolver un libro.

 f. --¿Por qué vas a la librería?
--Tengo que comprar una tarjeta de cumpleaños.
por que tengo que comprar una tarjeta de cumpleaños

Jessica December 15, 2008 08:10 PM

The example didn't include por que, so I didn't write por que before all the answers.

lee ying December 15, 2008 08:28 PM

i don´t know why? but i know you must to answer like that.

Jessica December 15, 2008 08:30 PM

oh ok but my homework is only graded for completion...:P
