Yahoo: Major flaw revealed in Internet Explorer; users urged to switch

The major press outlets are abuzz this morning with news of a major new security flaw that affects all versions of Internet Explorer from IE5 to the latest beta of IE8. The attack has serious and far-reaching ramifications -- and they're not just theoretical attacks. In fact, the flaw is already in wide use as a tool to steal online game passwords, with some 10,000 websites infected with the code needed to take advantage of the hole in IE.
Links: Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari.

ohhh I have Window Vista will my computer be affected?
I don't want to switch. Why? Here are the reasons:

1. My parents won't let me.
2. My parents won't like it.
3. My parents will get mad.
4. I really like Internet Explorer

I didn't know the serious flaw of Internet Explorer, until today I use the Internet Explorer 8 and the Internet chrome from Google, well, I never have problems in the Internet Explorer, but, perhaps in the website from Microsoft there are much kinds of updates as security for your computer, it might helps you in your system operative.

Jessica, your browser (Internet Explorer), not your operating system (Vista, XP, etc.), has the security flaw David is writing about. You can switch browsers rather easily until the flaw has been fixed.

CrOtALiTo December 16, 2008 10:41 PM

Ahh, Jessica, you have the Windows Vista installed, then you have problems of security law in your browser, you must to check your system operative. I recommend that, because so you avoid that a person enter in your computer.

You can install an alternative browser without changing your operating system (Vista) or removing your current browser (Internet Explorer). It's up to you and your parents. Read the news articles and make an informed decision.

Are you asking me a question? I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to tell me.

CrOtALiTo December 16, 2008 11:17 PM

Do you read the legal information when you install some software.? Or only you push the accept bottom.

I don't understand what that has to do with this thread, but actually I do make it point to read the EULA for the software I install, unlike many people. :)

ok right now I don't see a flaw in IE. If it comes, what will happen?

Rusty December 17, 2008 08:06 AM

Did you read the article? The flaw in IE exists (you already have it). If you visit any web site that has already been infected/compromised, you take the risk of having your password for access to that site stolen.

CrOtALiTo December 17, 2008 09:25 AM

Yes, you must to check your computer, because if your parents uses the internet explore for check things related with banks, the flaw could to be dangerous, if you know above the bad people with other intentions, they can to extract information as keys or accounts, password extracted of your computer, then I can give you a hint above as you can to be careful with your computer, first you must have an Antivirus, or you must at least an Antispywire installed in your computer, you must check periodically your computer upon virus, look if you check those points, you will see soon, you haven't to worry for your computer.;)

Jessica December 17, 2008 02:35 PM
