Avenida
I know that Rusty told me that avenida Sol is supposed to be Avenida Sol. In that homework from yesterday, Rusty, you told me that it was Avenida de/del Sol. In today's homework, though I saw "la avenida Sol". Not only is the avenida not Avenida, but there isn't a de or del. La Avenida Sol means Sun Avenue and La Avenida del Sol means Avenue of the Sun, right?
Well, for some reason, avenida's not Avenida in my homework. Just saying |
Yes, you've said before that your textbook doesn't capitalize avenue, or calle, when they are used in a street name.
If you do an Internet search on "Avenida del Sol" and then on "Avenida Sol," compare how many hits you get for each one. You'll see that "Avenida del Sol" has 139,000 hits and is the most popular way to say it. If you look at the highlighted terms in each web site result, you'll see that the word avenue is in capital letters. This is because that is the proper way to write street names. Try other searches on street names, like "Avenida de las Americas" or "Calle de las Damas" or "Calle del Sol." In every case, you'll see proper capitalization for the street names. :) (You don't have to capitalize the letters as I did when you perform your searches - the results will be the same.) |
ok :)

Hi Sofia
I usually say avenida del sol, calle del Carmen y paseo Fuenmayor. Saying avenida Sol or avenida del Sol is the same. Can you give me the difference between Sun Avenue and Avenue of the Sun? RAE (from Mayúsculas (Capitalised)) Quote:

Rusty gives his own version, but Rusty is from the USA, so he uses his normal way. And remember it must be capitalised if it is the first letter in a sentence. Last Rusty, I remember you that for Google "avenida Sol" or "Avenida Sol" it's the same (as you say) so you can't use this method for a capitalize question. Saludos :D |
Entonces, retiro lo dicho. I retract what I said, then.
I found lots of street names with Avenida and Calle en Internet con letra mayúscula. ¿Habrá otro estándar? |
lot of people write it capitalised because it looks better or english influence.
And in a lot of places it's in a direction or advert, wich means the letter can be capitalised "Mr Pepito Pérez Calle Sol,56 31562 Sevilla" "Calle Sol: pisos en venta" but you should say "mi amigo Pepito vive en la calle Sol" Saludos :D |
Bueno, pues. Aprendí algo nuevo. Gracias por arrojar luz sobre la duda que tenía. De ahora en adelante usaré letra minúscula, menos la primera palabra de una oración o en anuncios.
It appears your textbook is correct, Jessica. Sorry about that! |
so it shouldn't be capitalized, Avenida? :O ok
