One day, a young man went downtown and proclaimed he had the most beautiful heart in the whole region.

A large crowd gathered around him and admired and confirmed that his heart was perfect, for they could see neither spots nor scratches on it.

Yes, they all agreed that it was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen.

is this right?

What you highlighted in red is correct. The rest of the narrative is correct, although I would opt for a different word here and there. For spots, I would use manchas, for example.

can you tell me what words you would use instead? i'm trying to translate it from spanish to english. i couldn't find máculas in the dictionary here. would stains be a better translation?

Stains, blemishes or flaws may be better choices.

.....the young man felt great pride.... he felt assured that he possessed the most beautiful heart in the entire place.

Al verse admirado = Seeing that he was admired
el joven se sintió más orgulloso aún = the young man felt even more proud
y con mayor fervor = and with greater zeal
