the cat was actually a good friend of the rat*

one day god told all the animals that there will be a banquet on the next day and that they are not to be late
the cat told the rat to wake him up the next day so that they can go together and they will not be late.

the rat wanted to be the first to reach the banquet so he woke up very early and did not wake the cat up.
