It means easily hurt by someone else's insensitive comments or actions. Is there a Spanish equivalent?

I'd use susceptible if the person feels hurt and reacts with anger or as if they were offended. And I'd use muy sensible or hipersensible if they rather react in a melancholic way.

Tomarse a pecho translates nearly directly to English, and we would say, to take something to heart. You are right, it doesn't mean being thin skinned which is not a good thing. To take something to heart implies earnestness which is usually admirable. Hipersensible works best. Thanks.
