I'm not sure the real role of "con lo cual" in the quoted text because it comes after a period. There's some "spiritual" connotation in that and, though I could say mechanically that "con lo cual" kind of means "a consecuencia de ello", I may make a conjecture about the boy having some very personal experience and sort of "glowing" as a consequence of it, to the astonishment and discomfort of the friars.
I can't be sure of this because the text is too short but the author is known to write around the experiences of the believer.
