Movie's topic
Guys, I just finished to watch a Will Smith's movie, then the tittle of the movie were (Seven pound). Just I don't understand the translation above the sentence, I'd like to know the mean of the phrase, I'd like get more hints above this topic, if you can help me, I will be grateful with you.
Commentary. The movie is very said, I don't know but at most the movie make me cry. Only I think above the possibility to cry one time.:worried: |
can you tell us what the movie was about?

It's hard to tell (to know) what you were asking, Crotalito. My guess is that you'd like the movie title translated. The English title is Seven Pounds (Siete Libras), but the Spanish title is Siete Almas (Seven Souls). The Spanish title is easier to understand, since the movie is about an IRS agent who sets out to change the lives of seven strangers. The English title has to do with weight. (El título en inglés tiene que ver con el peso.) Not having seen the movie, I can't give a better translation.
The German title for the movie is Sieben Leben (Seven Lives), by the way, which is about the same as the Spanish title. |
Then Why has the movies different titles? Why has the movies is not translate in the same title in sundry languages?
|
That happens quite often. Language is, afterall, very cultural. Feelings, rather than dictionaries, should dictate translation. The movie is about seven souls (seven lives), so those are excellent translations. I need to see/feel/experience the movie myself before I can understand the English title.
|
It might could be translate then of the best way Seven souls, not Seven pounds.
|
I saw that movie, too. It made me cry a LOT! (And it made me kind of angry.) I thought maybe the title referred to the weight of the organs that he was donating to those people. I'm not sure... See this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814314/synopsis

When creating movie titles in the original language, they often try to cram a lot of meaning between the lines. Seven pounds could very well be a reference to Shylock and his taking a pound of flesh from his victim.
Edit: I just clicked the link that Lou Ann posted, which just confirms it. :) |
Yes Leapelda, What is your name? I feel that is easier naming you for your name than for your nick, I'm sorry for that, yes as you have said, I watched the movie while I'm questing me, Why does the movie is name so? Because the real name mean other thing, but whatever, as I said, I saw the movie and sometimes, it make me cry, because I entered to the story and it's very said for the people who themselves suicides daily in our whole world, but anyhow he decide suicided for a noble reason, he donated his organs, and it was really very sweet and amazing, I don't know it was only a movie, but I believe that it really would can exist in the live of someone.

My name is Lou Ann (see my signature at the bottom of my posts). Yeah, my nickname is dumb. But I use it as a log in for lots of things because it's my first initial and part of my last name. Silly. :)
In my opinion his suicide wasn't so noble because it was more out of guilt than it was about helping people...... |

Check the Spanish movies: sometimes they're also sold in Mexico with different names than their original. |
