Facebook...

As of last night, Facebook started sending my e-mail notifications in Spanish. For no reason. As if the bot somehow knows that I'm attempting to learn to speak Spanish. Weird.

Anyway - I just posted the status message: "Lou Ann is confused. Somehow, Facebook has started to send my e-mail notifications in Spanish. Did they know I'm attempting to learn the language?"

If I wanted to say THAT in Spanish, would it be:
"Lou Ann estoy confudida. De algun manera, Facebook comenzó consignar notificación correo electrónico en español. Conocieron que estoy tratando a aprender a español?"

Just curious.....

"Lou Ann está confundida. Por alguna razón, (la red social) Facebook ha comenzado a mandarme notificaciones por correo electrónico en español. ¿Se dieran cuenta de mi intento de aprender el idioma?"

Suggestions above.

I don't know might you have posted something where you have notified, you are learning Spanish.

laepelba February 01, 2009 11:19 AM

No - that's the weird part. I haven't really said anything in my profile about learning Spanish, although I have several Facebook friends who speak Spanish. But the e-mail notifications come from a "bot", so they wouldn't take into account what I've said in my profile, only my account settings. It doesn't bother me ... I'm just amused. :)

Why do you use "Lou Ann is confused"? Third person?
Rusty's answer is OK (little typo), but I would change "Lou Ann is confused" to "Estoy confundida./estoy confusa/ estoy intrigada/ estoy sorprendida"

Saludos :D

Sosia - in Facebook, the status messages always start with your first name (thus third person) and they prompt you with "[Lou Ann] is .... " and they say "tell us what you are doing right now". So, you say something like "Lou Ann is watching the Superbowl" or whatever you happen to be doing.

sosia February 02, 2009 03:56 AM

Oh. I'm "off" in social networks. :D

laepelba February 02, 2009 05:07 AM

Good! Stay "off". Run away ... run away!!! ;)

CrOtALiTo February 02, 2009 10:11 PM

It could be sent in way aleatory, then it does not want to say that exactly the facebook knew, you are learning Spanish.

Did you change your browser's language preferences?

laepelba February 05, 2009 02:22 PM

Nope. I haven't changed anything language-y in the past couple of months. This started happening very suddenly. And really, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I'm learning new Spanish words from the situation, so it's all good. I really just wanted to write something in Spanish about it in my status message. :)

CrOtALiTo February 05, 2009 03:37 PM

Yes the vantage of that kind of website is, you can write anything in your native language and it in fact will translate your message to other language, in your case was at Spanish, then I feel that since of the moment, you sign on at the website the register send a log of every user to the own servers of the website and save the e-mails and other kind of data, and it later of a way safety send you information of the same website, it has happened me overmuch.
