Osmosis & Plant Cells

Please help me with the questions in this lab...by today!!

1. What do you think will happen if you leave elodea cells in a salt solution (5%) for several hours? The cells will lose the green color?

2. Strawberry preserves contain a very high concentration of sugar. Is the sugar added for any reason other than its sweetness? ????? give hints on this, please....! ???

Here's a hint for #2: I think sugar can be used or preservation in some cases.
