Estar practice
 
It is May 4.
Estamos a cuatro de Mayo.

Alice is about to leave on vacation.
ALice está para salir de vacciones.

She will be vacationing in Virginia.
Estará de vacciones en Virginia.

Alice is just about to finish packing her last suitcase as her mother walks into the room.
ALice está a punto de acabar haciendo su última maleta como su madre entra en la habitación.

Her mother says to ALice "I think you have packed enough clothes for your trip."
Su madre le dice a Alice "Creo que has embalado lo suficiente ropa para tu viaje.

Alice does not agree with her madre.
Alice no está de acuerdo con su madre.

She is in favor of taking more clothes with her.
Ella está por llevarse más ropa.
Ella está por tomar más ropa consigo.

Her mother is not in agreement with her daughter.
Su madre no está conforme con su hija.

She doubts that Alice should bring more clothes with her because she will be back from Virginia in 2 weeks.
Ella duda que Alice deba llevarse más ropa porque estará de vuelta de Virginia en dos semanas.

Grammar book says........... estar para + infinitive = to be about
Why change está para salir to está por salir?

estar por only means to be in favor of when followed by noun? (estar por + noun)

Grammar book says.......estar conforme con=to be in agreement with.
Why doesn't it work in Su madre no está conforme con su hija.?Grammar book says.......estar de vuelta=to be back. Why not Duda que Alice deba llevar más ropa porque estaré de vuelta de Virginia en dos semanas.?

Does llevarse mean to take something physically away from your person?

Ella está por tomar más ropa consigo.:good: (This one is correct, but not usual. It sounds like a sentence in a Spanish languaje homework :p)

Maybe it's a bit too Mexican, but I would understand "No estoy conforme contigo" like "I'm not very happy with the things you do".


@cmon: "estar conforme con" would mean to accept a situation without questioning, either because you are satisfied with it, you agree or you simply resigned yourself to accept it.

"Estoy conforme con los resultados del análisis" -- "I accept the results of the analysis"

"El ladrón escuchó la sentencia y está conforme con ella" -- "The thief heard the judgement and he is resigned to it"

That is why. The translation was 'doesn't agree with' instead of 'isn't happy with'.

Estar+para+infinitive and estar+por+infinitive can mean the same thing, depending on where you learned Spanish.

Está por llover. = It's about to rain. (hits on the Internet = 3,610)
Está para llover. = It's about to rain. (hits on the Internet = 753)

Estar + para + infinitive can also indicate a purpose.
Estar + por + infinitive can mean to be in favor of doing something.

Estoy para estudiar. = I'm here to study. -or- I'm about to study.
Estoy por estudiar. = I'm in favor of studying. -or- I'm about to study.

I see... To me "not being happy" is a form of disagreement, but a more rigorous use of translations must be needed to be sure about the meanings. :)
