Dicen que los mapaches huelen mal. ¿Es cierto?
They say skunks raccoons smell bad. Is this true?

No, los mapaches no huelen mal. Es los mofetas mapurritos y zorrillas que apestan.

Agree with Elaina. Skunk is zorrillo in Central America.

Mapache is a raccoon.

The skunks smell bad.

In the highway the animals most the skunk smell bad. That animal is more common in my state.

When someone has dark circles around the eyes, we say "tienes ojos de mapache".

Does anyone remember how to say that?

Also, speaking of "m" words... there is a word used in Puerto Rico for "cold" instead of gripe or resfriado.

Does anyone know/remember what it is?

It's driving me nuts that I forgot it and I can't find it in any dictionary.

The really funny thing was, if you happened to click the dictionary link, the only meaning given for mapache is raccoon.

DAVID, you made me look like a fool today... hahaha. Not really but kinda. I was talking today with my Argentine gf and I use the word mapache (thinking it meant skunk) and she tells me it doesn't mean skunk, skunk is zorrillo. However, she didnt know the English word for mapache. She just kept telling me it is Pocahontas' pet from the disney movie. But as I am a bit rusty with my old disney movies, I didn't know what she was refering to. So I looked it up.
