Maybe not throughout the world, but wherever there are Catholics, Holy
Week is celebrated, and celebrations vary from one country to another,

That sounds like fun Lee Ying. I don't get a vacation here; but we're having dinner with the family on Easter.

There's no beaches in Ohio; but it's snowing today anyway.

Yes. It's common in my country that the school give you vacations during the honly week. Well in my situation for my job only the Thursday and Friday will be day free for me, but I wanna go to Merida to see the Cenotes, because actually in my state there are a lot of hot and it's very hard for me and my family then I have decided to do a trip through of the my state with Merida city.
:)

I thought that Semana santa at English is translated as Saint week.

In a religious context, Semana Santa is Holy Week. Based on cultural context, (in Mexico at least), I would translate it as spring break, when everyone has one or two weeks off from school.
