The second correction? I have a feeling that in some Spanish speaking countries in the Americas the article is used but not in Spanish in Spain. Maybe someone out there can confirm/deny this.

Sí, pero creo que no tanto. Bueno, cuando llevas dos horas hablando con alguien con un acento un poco peculiar, acabas entendiéndolo... Y si no, haces ver que lo entiendes :D

En mi experiencia, es muy común y sobre todo muy frustrante cuando uno se topa con alguien a quien se le debería entender porque presuntamente habla español, pero su acento regional lo vuelve incomprensible.

Hice la preparatoria en una escuela francesa. Teníamos un compañero cubano al que siempre acabamos (maestros y alumnos) pidiéndole que mejor hablara en francés, porque nunca logramos "brincar" el acento.

Por cuestiones de trabajo, una vez tuve que recibir a un turista andaluz y llevarlo a visitar algunos monumentos históricos. Me tomó por boba porque tuve que preguntarle varias veces qué había dicho para poder comprenderlo.

Afortunadamente (en general) en la televisión sólo hay acentos estándar. :D

Aqui pasa lo mismo con los americanos. Algunos admiten que despues de escuchar un rato el acento comienzan a entender algo mas, etc... :)

Y no te ha pasado nunca, con alguien de tu tierra, que sabes que no tiene acento ninguno pero de algun modo la manera de hablar es tan rara que uno necesita un traductor? :D
