HoLA

Hi, my name is Brooke. Although I am now officially a member, I've been browsing many of the threads for a while. I never took a day of Spanish in high school or college...But in November of 2007, I spent a year in Nicaragua and loved every minute of it. I am (unfortunately) back in the U.S. for now, but I am using most of my free time to slowly teach myself Spanish using a few books I have and great online sources like Tomímismo! My hardest part is verb conjugation, especially when trying to say it. Most of the time it comes out in the infinitive instead of the conjugated form because I try to speak as fast as I think. And the past tenses just give me a headache right now:banghead:...Anyways, everyone seems to be very helpful around here, so I thought I'd finally join and get help for some of the questions that come up (daily)!:)

Brooke

¡Bienvenida!
What part of Nicaragua were you in?

NiCACHiCA May 05, 2009 02:57 PM

León...have you been to Nicaragua?

Rusty May 05, 2009 03:01 PM

I lived in León for about 4 months, a long time ago.

NiCACHiCA May 05, 2009 03:12 PM

that's awesome! did you like it? I left my heart there! Hopefully one day I will live there and be able to speak easily with natives! have you been studying Spanish for a long time (how did you do it??)? You seem REALLY knowledgeable in all the threads!

Bienvenida :) I'm learning Spanish too

Rusty May 05, 2009 03:48 PM

I spent two years in Central America and spoke Spanish 24/7. That's where, and how, I learned. I rarely spoke English. When I returned home to the USA, there were many English words I couldn't pronounce very well and there were some I couldn't remember, so I just taught my family the Spanish words for those.

:) I do that too, well, sort of. I speak to my dogs in Spanish (just to practice) but my verbs always come out in the present-tense 'yo' form.

"Quiero agua? . . . d'oh! Quieres agua!" "Tengo hambre? . . . TIENES hambre!" etc.

Good luck! Practice makes perfect (or at least, less imperfect). :)

Hi Brooke, nice to meet you! :):)

lol aww fazor I bet your dogs find you and your spanish just charming. I've found that people, however, are not so appreciative of botched spanish... my friends tell me to shut up after a while!!

Tomisimo May 07, 2009 04:42 PM

Welcome! :)
