¿Se puede usar la palabra 'barrer' cómo esto? En inglés se puede usar 'sweep/barrer' como 'search for'

I heard "barrer para casa":

En cuanto puede, barre para casa (= aprovecha cualquier oportunidad para beneficiarse de alguna manera)

I think they both have the same meaning.
