Quisieron llegar a la cima pero fracasaron.
They tried to reach the summit but failed.

Cuando se esta aprendiendo un idioma nueve es imposible que se fracasa si se tiene muchas ganas de aprenderlo:) Mientras, es muy posible fracasar cuando se esta jugando a la lotería.

*"Mientras que" is preferred to make an emphasis on the comparison between both sentences, and "sin embargo" makes the opposition more neutral.

¿En este caso se lo necesita usar porque "cuando" y "si"? {the uncertainty?}

En este caso, el único subjuntivo está en "es imposible que se fracase", porque expresas una posibilidad muy remota.

En tus frases, "cuando" y "si" sólo necesitan el presente simple: "cuando se aprende/se está aprendiendo/se juega/se está jugando", "si tienes ganas de aprender".

Be careful, you tend to use "pretérito imperfecto" instead of present, but let me suggest you use Spanish verbal tenses --on principle--, just the same as you would in English... that will save you many corrections. :)

My friend, you know your Spanish is get better each day and you will reach the summit of your knowledge, but in this post you have one mistake, of the way I understood the phrase, it seems to be in past, then you tend to turn the word of other way when the sentence is in past and it's not in present.

The way correct translation of this post is.
