despintarse (verb) — to fade, wash off, take the color off. Look up despintarse in the dictionary

Acabo de lavar mi pantalón y se despintó todo.
I just washed my pants and the color came completely out of them.

I think this is wrong.

To fade and wash off would mean desteñir.

Despintar es borrar o sacar el color de algo, además de otras cositas.

I agree, I use "desteñir", too. Sometimes "despintarse" is used for makeup, but rarely, usually it's "desmaquillarse". Actually I never use this word: algo está desteñido o descolorido.

The word Despitar is right, because in my country is commonly used to say fade out of the color in the clothe.

"El pantalón se despintó con la lavada" is perfectly clear in Mexico.

Of course it is clear, the pants now have no color! :wicked: :whistling: ;)

Tienen color, sólo que despintado. :p


Podría usarse "deslavado" o "desteñido", pero mis tías y mi abuelita dirían claramente "despintado". :D

Obvioulsy it´s a word used in Mexico but not in Spain, in Spain it would only be used when sb has a lot of make-up on her face, to say take it off.

And not always ;). Usually we say "desmaquillarse" :)

Sé que uds. lo usan así. Me pregunto si uds. son los únicos... :)
