Objeto Social

Objeto Social

The company's goal is to develop and construct new washing machine.
Our target is to reach a wide range of consumers and to sell 100,000 of them by 2012.
The translation is only good if objeto social is roughly synonimous to
meta.

You're more or less on the right track, Poli. I was wondering about "objective" as a translation. What do you think?

Are there any lawyers out there that can help? I know laws are different in each country and maybe the English- American-Australian law doesn't require that a company states what it's purpose or objective is in the statutes or by-laws when it's setting up. In Spain when a company is set up it is mandatory to provide a description of what the company is for, i.e. XXXX will design, manufacture and distribute household electrical appliances - El objeto social de XXXX consiste en diseñar, fabricar y distribuir electrodomésticos.

See if prospectus fits your need. A prospectus is in the form of a legal document that a company may present their stockholders.

I'd say "social purpose/aim".

FYI, I found out that "Objeto Social" = "the objects of a company", i.e. what the company will do, at least in British Company Law.

a veces se usa vision/visión, pero más como referencia general que directa.
Saludos :D

The objects of the company is a term not used in the USA. Over here this would mean the comany's desks, phones, computers, microwaves;)
More likely you would hear the company's objective, or our prospectus.
Prospectus, however, is more often a booklet illustrating the company's objective.

I guess the closest in AmE would be something like: "type of business".

objeto social

in canada, a corporation often formally states its "mission", which will include its social objective(s).

Gracias de antemano.

I would translate it as "mission" or "mission statement".

Thanks everybody.
I now have both versions for future reference: BrE and AmE.
