Parecía que la pierna del muchacho hubiera sido...

Hubiera =IMPERFECTO DE SUBJUNTIVO,
Creo que el imperfecto es usado porque esta oración está describiendo la información de fondo en mi libro.
¿Por qué se usa el subjuntivo aquí?

El verbo, parecer está presente, el que comunica que hay un caso (un chance). ¿Es eso la razón por qué el subjuntivo es usado?

Lo siento, quiero decir que, "the verb parecer is present in the sentence"

Todavía no estoy seguro de que cómo el verbo haber es usado en esa frase

I think I understand why the imperfect is used, because this is background information which triggers the imperfect instead of the regular past tense)

¿Pero por qué no se usa el verbo haber como eso?

Chileno already gave the reason. 'It seemed', which is the translation of parecía, paints the picture of non-reality (it seemed like ...., but it wasn't so). The subjunctive is used when you're not dealing with facts.
The imperfect subjunctive is used because the past tense was used in the main clause.
Haber is the auxiliary verb used in the perfect tenses (along with the past participle), and is the equivalent of the English auxiliary verb have used in its perfect tenses (along with the past participle).

Para digo la verdad la gramática en el libro no es difícil, el idioma empieza sonar natural a mí, y yo estoy entusiasmado de eso porque no tengo que ejerzo (o poner?) mucho tiempo ni pensamiento para entender lo que estoy leyendo. :D

El parte más difícil es añadir al vocabulario de mío, lo cual tiene sentido porque hay tan muchas palabras.:lol: Y por supuesto entender la palabra hablada
